Report a problem

Include your Chrome version, extension version, steps to reproduce the problem, and the status you expected. Include a public example URL or a screenshot if useful.

Remove passwords, tokens, personal information and confidential query parameters before sending a URL or screenshot. A minimal example is enough to help us investigate.

Troubleshooting

The scan will not start

Use a regular HTTP or HTTPS webpage and allow the extension the site access it needs in Chrome's extension settings. Chrome internal pages, the Chrome Web Store and other browser-protected pages cannot be scanned. Refresh the webpage after installing or updating the extension, then try again.

A working link appears amber

Amber includes HTTP responses other than 200 or 404, such as 403 or 429, along with timeouts and network failures. Hover over the link for details. Checks omit login credentials and cookies, so protected pages can respond differently from manual browsing. Anti-bot protections may also limit requests.

A redirect appears green

The extension follows redirects and uses the final response to choose the color. A redirect ending at HTTP 200 is green. Hover over the link to see the final URL.

A missing page appears green

Some websites display a not-found message but return HTTP 200. This is a soft 404. The extension reports HTTP status and does not analyze page content to detect soft 404 responses.

Some links are not marked

Each scan checks up to 500 unique HTTP/HTTPS URLs in the main document. Page anchors, email and phone links, iframes and Shadow DOM are excluded. Links added after scanning starts need a new scan. The popup reports URLs beyond the scan limit.

How do I stop or remove the highlights?

Click the circular-arrow button in the popup. This stops later batches, ignores pending results and restores the original link tooltip text and styles. Refreshing the webpage also removes the highlights.

Do I need to keep the popup open?

No. Once scanning starts, it continues with the popup closed. Reopen the popup on the same tab to see progress. Navigating away, refreshing or closing the tab clears the results.

Extension privacy policy

Effective October 26, 2026 · Applies to Link Status Checker version 1.0.1

Information processed on your device

When you start a scan, the extension reads HTTP and HTTPS link addresses from the current page's main document. It processes link addresses, HTTP response status codes, final redirect URLs and existing link tooltip text in memory to apply temporary status highlights and restore the page when cleared.

Requests to link destinations

To check a link, the extension sends a HEAD request and, for certain responses, a GET request directly to that link's destination. Requests include the full destination URL, including query parameters. Destination servers receive normal network connection information, including your IP address, and may keep their own access logs. Redirects can send requests to additional destination servers. The extension omits cookies and login credentials from these requests and does not execute response content.

Storage, analytics and sharing

The extension has no developer-operated data collection server, advertising SDK, analytics, account system or persistent scan history. Results and original tooltip text remain in the current page's memory until cleared or the page is refreshed or closed. We do not receive or sell extension scan data. Status requests are sent directly from your browser to the link destinations, not to our support website.

Permissions

activeTab and scripting allow the scanner and highlighting styles to run in the current tab after you start a scan. HTTP and HTTPS host access allows the background worker to request link statuses across domains.

Support email and this website

Do not send confidential browsing information. This support website is delivered through Cloudflare, which adds security checks and website performance analytics.
